Abstract:

The objective of the research was to find whether any differences exist between cattle herds operated by certain milking installations. The cattle herds were studied not only by herd size but also by certain data, like annual milk yield, age and number of lactations. Data collected on dairy farms that operate pipeline milking systems, milking parlours and automatic milking systems were analysed. These farms are situated in three Baltic States. The investigated Estonian dairy farms indicated a decreased tendency in the prevalence of disease cases for udder diseases with an increase in cow herd size. An index of cow production potential was proposed to compare different (including number of lactations) group of cows in dairy farms.

Abstract:

The development of milking systems is one of the most important examples proving the dynamic improvement of dairy production on the basis of a technical infrastructure. Farm milking systems incorporate many technical solutions—this provides a basis for analysing and assessing different milking systems in use today. Milking systems can be evaluated on the basis of a set of data and indices directly connected with the work of milking installations. The purpose of the analysis is to show how different kind of milking systems can be assessed in view of milk and its selected features, especially the value of the milk.

Abstract:

Dairy production ranks among the most important agricultural activities in many European countries. The general potential of dairy production is created by technical, biological, economic and technological potential. Each unit potential decides about global effectiveness of dairy production including farm as well as national scale. The paper aimed at analyzing importance of some potential in the dairy production development. The significance of technical and biological potential in the dairy production development was indicated, taking into account data coming from Estonian and Polish farms as well as national dairy production systems in two European countries.
